Springfield, Oregon resident Randy Lee Cook, 43, has been sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for repeatedly possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.
Cook, a convicted child pornography offender from Missouri, was required to register as a sex offender after serving a significant prison sentence in 2006 for distributing child sexual abuse material to a minor, engaging in sexual chats with the minor, and propositioning an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a minor for sex.
However, Cook resumed his illicit activities in 2020 and 2021, distributing child sexual abuse material online using the Kik Messenger app. Investigators discovered Cook’s involvement after tracing multiple Kik accounts to his residence in Springfield.
On June 11, 2021, law enforcement executed search warrants on Cook’s residence, truck, and person, finding his phone contained approximately 194 images and 63 videos depicting child sexual abuse.
Cook was arrested in July 2021 and later indicted by a federal grand jury in Eugene on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. He pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography on January 24, 2024.
This case was investigated by the FBI Eugene Resident Agency, with assistance from the FBI New Orleans Field Office, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Shreveport Police Department. It was prosecuted by William McLaren, Marco Boccato, and Mira Chernick, Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the District of Oregon.
The FBI urges anyone with information about the physical or online exploitation of children to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (www.missingkids.org) provides resources for those affected by child exploitation.
