Gina Marie Mullen, a 58-year-old resident of Washington, Pennsylvania, has been charged with stealing $24,236.91 in Social Security benefits. The theft occurred when Mullen used a deceased person’s bank debit card to access the funds. The crime took place in Washington County, where Mullen resides. The investigation, conducted by the Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General, led to Mullen’s indictment on April 7.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh, charges Mullen with a single count of theft of government property. Assistant United States Attorney Eleni F. Skezas is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Mullen faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the loss from the offense, or both.
