LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Community Corrections & Pretrial Services Department’s former acting director, Jennifer Peters, 43, of Madison Heights, Virginia, has pleaded guilty to a string of serious federal charges including conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and destruction of evidence. Peters is accused of providing her romantic partner, Brendon Cole Webber, with unauthorized access to confidential law enforcement data, lying to federal investigators, and destroying evidence.
According to court documents, in 2022, Peters worked at LCCPS under supervision. By 2023, she had become the acting director. In August 2023, she started a relationship with Webber, who was under her probationary supervision. Peters used her position to provide Webber with access to the Lynchburg Police Department’s Records Management System (RMS), a protected computer system containing sensitive data.
Between November 11, 2023, and January 9, 2024, Peters and Webber conspired to misuse this information. On November 30, Webber was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and an arrest warrant was issued for him. Despite knowing about the warrant, Peters drove Webber across state lines to Pennsylvania to hinder the fugitive manhunt.
Upon federal law enforcement questioning, Peters lied about her relationship with Webber and attempted to obstruct justice by destroying evidence. After Webber’s arrest in Pennsylvania, both she and Webber faced additional charges. Webber pleaded guilty to computer fraud, obstruction of justice, and firearm possession. Peters will be sentenced later this year.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Lynchburg Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Vito Iaia handling the prosecution.
