HARRISBURG – In a hard-hitting blow to the drug trade in York County, Joseph Gallego, 37, of York, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 151 months’ imprisonment for his role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation. The sentence was handed down on August 28, 2025, by United States District Judge Keli M. Neary.
Gallego’s criminal activities came to light when the York County Drug Task Force conducted surveillance on a local residence, where they observed him entering. Upon their arrival, officers confronted two conspirators at the door and subsequently discovered Gallego in the basement, where they found him with 76.37 grams of cocaine base. The search also yielded a loaded Glock model 40 semiautomatic pistol, further implicating Gallego in the dangerous world of drug trafficking.
On October 18, 2024, Gallego pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marking a significant victory for law enforcement agencies involved in the case. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the York County Drug Task Force played pivotal roles in the investigation.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus praised the collaborative efforts of the task force, saying, “This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate drug trafficking in our communities.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Ford led the prosecution against Gallego.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at eradicating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from various task forces and programs within the Department, highlighting its commitment to comprehensive law enforcement efforts.
Gallego’s sentence stands as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those involved in drug trafficking, and it serves as a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice in the battle against criminal organizations.
