A 41-year-old St. Cloud man has been sentenced to prison for a heinous crime that spans years of grooming and abuse.
Joshua Douglas Dodson was sentenced to 24 years and 5 months in federal prison for enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity and possessing images and videos of children being sexually exploited, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The sentencing comes after Dodson pleaded guilty in November 2023. Investigators first received a cyber tip in November 2021 that Dodson had received child sexual abuse material on a social media platform.
When the investigation became public, a child victim came forward and told investigators that Dodson asked her to sit on his lap and attempted to touch her in March 2020. The victim also stated that Dodson sent her nude pictures and a video of him masturbating in conversations with investigators posing as the victim.
During these conversations, Dodson asked for ‘naughty pics’ of the victim’s private parts in exchange and even joked that he was feeling like a 15-year-old again. Dodson also warned the victim to be cautious and delete their communications.
A meeting was arranged between Dodson and the law enforcement officer posing as the victim on November 7, 2022. When Dodson arrived, an arrest team swarmed his truck and seized his cellphone, which contained child sex abuse images taken using a hidden camera.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Dorman. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and identify and rescue victims. The case serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse that plagues the nation.
This case is a stark example of the heinous crimes that occur in our communities, and the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to bring perpetrators to justice.
