Detroit’s Matthew Borodich was handed a 45-year federal prison term for his heinous exploitation of a child and distribution of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison.
The sentence was meted out by Judge Linda V. Parker after a brutal investigation revealed Borodich’s sickening crimes. The 37-year-old Detroit man had been caught sharing graphic images and videos of his 7-year-old victim in an online chat group, sparking a swift and relentless pursuit by law enforcement.
In late summer 2023, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department officers discovered Borodich’s sinister activities. FBI agents swiftly executed a search warrant at his residence, where they found hundreds of images and videos of child pornography, including over 11 hours of footage.
“Through swift inter-agency coordination and the commitment of our law enforcement partners, we ended a dangerous sexual predator’s abuse of this vulnerable victim,” said Ison. “This sentence justly punishes the defendant for preying on a child of such a young age.”
Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, echoed the sentiment: “We have zero tolerance for the exploitation of the innocent and will persist in working together with our law enforcement partners to apprehend these criminals who believe they can prey on our youth.” The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Rawsthorne, Tara Hindelang, and Sean L. King, ensuring justice for the innocent victim and a severe punishment for Borodich.
