St. John Man Gets 14 Years for Meth and Gun Crimes
A St. John the Baptist man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for violating federal drug and firearms laws, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced. Jonathan Webre, a 35-year-old resident of Reserve, was sentenced on June 16, 2021 to 168 months in prison.
Webre was charged with distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pled guilty to all three charges on October 23, 2019.
The charges stemmed from an investigation by the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration into Webre’s illegal activities over the last two years.
At his sentencing, Judge Lance Africk ordered Webre to serve 168 months for the two drug charges and 120 months for the firearms violation, with all sentences to be served concurrently.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the St. John The Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the St. John the Baptist District Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Maurice Landrieu prosecuted the case.
The investigation and prosecution of Webre’s case is a significant step in combating the scourge of methamphetamine and firearms crimes in our community. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
Webre’s sentencing has been postponed numerous times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is currently in custody awaiting transfer to a federal prison to serve his sentence.
