St. Joseph Woman Sentenced for Selling Stolen Firearms
A 23-year-old St. Joseph woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole for selling stolen firearms in the Kansas City area.
O’Ceonna S. Thomas-Weston, 23, of St. Joseph, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs after pleading guilty to selling a stolen firearm on November 28, 2017.
According to prosecutors, Thomas-Weston sold a stolen Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle to a confidential informant for $900, despite initially asking for $1,200. She also admitted to selling a Taurus .38-caliber revolver and a Taurus 9mm pistol to the informant, and attempting to sell a .25-caliber pistol that never occurred.
Co-defendant Ronnie Lee Martin III, 22, of St. Joseph, has also pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
Thomas-Weston’s sentence was handed down after she admitted to selling the stolen military rifle, stating she ‘hoped the person that bought the rifle didn’t get caught with it because it was a stolen military rifle.’
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Morgan and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the St. Joseph, Mo., Police Department, and the Buchanan County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.
