Eric Watson, Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, St. Louis MO…

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL – Eric Watson, 28, of St. Louis, Missouri, is headed to federal prison for nearly five years. The St. Louis man was sentenced to 57 months on March 6, 2015, after pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, according to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton. Watson’s crimes unfolded across both St. Clair County, Illinois, and his home city of St. Louis.

The sentence, handed down by a federal judge, reflects the seriousness of Watson’s involvement in a drug operation that authorities say stretched beyond state lines. While details of the conspiracy remain tightly guarded, the 57-month term signals a significant role for Watson in the trafficking of the highly addictive drug. He’ll be looking at more than just prison time, however.

Upon his release from federal custody, Watson will face a three-year term of supervised release, meaning he’ll be monitored by parole officers and subject to restrictions. The court also slapped him with a $500 fine and an additional $100 special assessment – a small price to pay considering the damage caused by the methamphetamine he helped distribute.

This wasn’t a lone operation. The investigation, conducted under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), brought together a formidable coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the United States Marshals Service all contributed to building the case against Watson and his co-conspirators.

OCDETF is a nationwide initiative designed to dismantle large-scale drug trafficking organizations, and this case is a clear example of its effectiveness. By pooling resources and expertise, these agencies were able to trace the flow of methamphetamine and bring those responsible to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Donald S. Boyce spearheaded the prosecution, meticulously building a case that led to Watson’s conviction.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and others like it, exposing the dark underbelly of criminal activity and holding those who profit from misery accountable. The fight against methamphetamine and other illicit drugs is far from over, but this conviction represents a small victory in a long and arduous battle. Expect more prosecutions as the OCDETF continues its work.
