Leesburg Woman Sentenced to 48 Months for Identity Theft

A 49-year-old Leesburg woman has been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for her role in a massive identity theft scheme.

Stacey Lavette Hendricks was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore on charges of aggravated identity theft and wire fraud. Hendricks pleaded guilty to the charges on January 30, 2020.

According to court records, Hendricks worked at several Florida medical clinics in administrative positions. During her time at these clinics, she gained access to sensitive patient information, including birthdates and Social Security numbers.

Hendricks then used this information to sell stolen identities to others for cash or used them herself to defraud businesses. In May 2019, Hendricks unwittingly sold stolen patient identities to an undercover law enforcement officer.

A search of Hendricks’ home and car revealed 113 distinct sets of stolen identities from clinic patients. The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William S. Hamilton.

Hendricks’ sentencing comes as a warning to others who may be involved in similar schemes. The public is reminded to be vigilant when protecting their personal information and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

As Grimy Times continues to investigate, we will provide updates on this case and others like it. For now, Hendricks will serve out her 48-month sentence for her role in this massive identity theft scheme.
