A 36-year-old Stamford man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in a marijuana trafficking operation.

According to court documents, WILLIAM REYES, also known as “Big Head,” was involved in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana along with John Koukouras and Gustavo Garcia.

In the summer of 2017, the trio used a residence in Lagrangeville, New York, to grow, process, and distribute large quantities of marijuana. Investigators found that Garcia was supplying Reyes with massive amounts of marijuana, with one delivery totaling approximately 40 pounds in exchange for $80,000.

On July 26, 2017, investigators searched Reyes’ Stamford residence and the Lagrangeville residence, uncovering 18 kilograms of marijuana, paraphernalia associated with narcotics distribution, and $71,004 in cash at Reyes’ home. The Lagrangeville residence revealed 140 marijuana plants and related equipment.

Reyes has been detained since his arrest and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana on January 5, 2018. His sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven.

As part of his sentencing, Reyes was ordered to forfeit his interest in the $71,004 in cash seized from his residence and a 2012 Toyota Camry. John Koukouras was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment on February 7, 2018, while Garcia awaits sentencing.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Stamford Police Department, and New York State Police, with the case being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anthony E. Kaplan and Sarala V. Nagala.

Reyes’ sentence marks another victory in the fight against marijuana trafficking in the region, highlighting the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in bringing these crimes to justice.
