NEW HAVEN, CT – Alexander Oliveira, 32, of Stamford, will spend the next eight years behind bars after being sentenced today for sickening crimes involving the sexual abuse of children. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer handed down the 96-month sentence, followed by five years of supervised release, in New Haven federal court.
The case, spearheaded by U.S. Attorney John H. Durham, unfolded after an FBI special agent infiltrated an online forum where Oliveira openly discussed his depraved interests. According to court documents, the agent engaged with Oliveira via message board and email. During these exchanges, Oliveira brazenly admitted to possessing “a ton of pics & vids of kids ages 4-12,” and subsequently sent multiple images of child pornography to the undercover operative. The depravity didn’t stop there; Oliveira offered his entire “collection” in exchange for access to a child.
Oliveira’s arrest on March 5, 2019, yielded a digital treasure trove of horror – approximately 2000 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. Investigators identified over 600 of the children featured in the images, linking them to this case and numerous other child pornography investigations. The sheer volume of material underscores the scope of Oliveira’s monstrous obsession.
But the exploitation didn’t end with online images. The investigation revealed a chilling pattern of real-world predation. Around 2016, Oliveira manipulated a 16-year-old girl into sending him sexually explicit photographs. He then traveled to New York multiple times to engage in sexual intercourse with the same girl, a clear violation of New York state law where the age of consent is 17.
On October 2, 2019, Oliveira pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography. He had been released on a $100,000 bond, but is now required to report to prison on September 24, 2020, to begin serving his sentence. This case was a collaborative effort between the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force in New Haven and the Stamford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Vizcarrondo prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, a nationwide program dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation. This case serves as a grim reminder of the predators lurking in the digital shadows and the vital work of law enforcement in bringing them to justice.
