BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, a Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to serious drug charges in a Massachusetts federal court. Star Sirikhom, 38, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, as well as possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $10 million. The defendant was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2022, along with five alleged co-conspirators.
According to court documents, an investigation began in 2019 into a Colombia-based money laundering organization that was laundering drug proceeds on behalf of multiple drug trafficking organizations. During surveillance of a residence identified as a possible drug stash location, multiple people were observed entering the location with weighted bags or boxes and exiting with large trash bags, weighted bags, and five-gallon buckets, which were placed in vehicles before departing the residence.
In June 2021, Sirikhom was observed entering the stash house carrying a black backpack and exiting six minutes later with the same black backpack, which appeared to be weighted. During a subsequent traffic stop of Sirikhom’s vehicle, the backpack was seized from his trunk and found to contain over six kilograms of orange pills containing methamphetamine.
U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young scheduled sentencing for November 19, 2025. The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Jarod A. Forget, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division, made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Sullivan of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit is prosecuting the case.
