Methamphetamine Trafficking Plagues Tomah, Wisconsin
A 57-year-old Tomah man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.
Stephen Thompson, a resident of Tomah, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The crime, which occurred on November 15, 2021, involved the receipt of a parcel containing approximately one pound of methamphetamine from Arizona at an address in Sparta, Wisconsin.
Thompson’s criminal history dates back to 1992 and includes six drug-related felonies as well as prior felony convictions for burglary and theft.
The investigation, which was a joint effort by several law enforcement agencies, revealed that Thompson received a total of nine packages containing methamphetamine in the mail from Arizona at various addresses in the Tomah area.
Thompson’s sentencing comes after a lengthy investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General, Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and West Central Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Wegner.
Thompson’s conviction is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking ring operating in the Tomah area.
The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in Wisconsin.
