Columbia Man Charged with Receipt of Child Pornography
By Grimy Times
A 40-year-old man from Columbia, IL, has been charged with a serious crime. Steven D. Blosser was arraigned on February 24, 2017, on a federal indictment charging him with receipt of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Donald S. Boyce today.
According to the indictment, from September 16, 2015, to February 19, 2016, Blosser knowingly received child pornography, including four image files listed in the indictment. This crime is punishable by a term of imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than 20 years, a fine up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of not less than five years to life.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This case was brought as part of this initiative, which marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
The case was investigated by the Columbia, Illinois, Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Springfield Child Exploitation Task Force. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Angela Scott.
An indictment is merely the method by which federal charges are lodged. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The trial for Steven D. Blosser is scheduled for May 1, 2015. The seriousness of this crime cannot be overstated, and the community is shocked by these allegations.
