Kevin Nugent, 41, Arrested for Attempted Enticement and Coercion of a Minor in Clifton Park, New York
A disturbing case has shaken the quiet town of Clifton Park, New York, as Kevin Nugent, a 41-year-old resident, was arrested on August 27 on a complaint charging him with attempted enticement and coercion of a minor into committing criminal sex acts.
According to authorities, Nugent allegedly attempted to entice and coerce a minor, believed to be a 14-year-old girl, to engage in various sexual acts with him. The charge in the complaint is merely an accusation, and Nugent is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The FBI, led by Special Agent in Charge James N. Hendricks of the Albany Field Office, launched an investigation into Nugent’s alleged crimes. U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith praised the FBI’s efforts in bringing Nugent to justice.
Nugent was arraigned yesterday in Albany before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel and was ordered detained pending trial. If convicted, Nugent faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum sentence of life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emmet J. O’Hanlon is prosecuting the case, which highlights the severity of the alleged crimes and the importance of protecting our community’s most vulnerable members.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online predators and the importance of educating children and parents about online safety. As the community comes to terms with this shocking case, one thing is clear: justice will be served, and Nugent will face the full force of the law if convicted.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can keep our children safe and ensure that those who prey on them are held accountable.
