KANSAS CITY, MO – A brutal alliance of Kansas City street gangs is crumbling after a massive federal indictment unsealed today, alleging a decade-long reign of terror fueled by drug trafficking and violence. Nine individuals – accused leaders and foot soldiers – are facing racketeering and murder conspiracy charges, painting a grim picture of a criminal enterprise that held an entire community hostage.
The indictment names Steven K. Lee, aka “Bizzle” and “SB,” 38; Charles V. Williams, aka “Cheese” and “Chucky D,” 35; Travis L. Cook, aka “Trav,” 30; Richard B. Johnson, aka “Scritch” and “Rich,” 24; Deion D. Alford, aka “Wommy,” 23; Ewon R. Kelley, aka “Won,” 33; Myreku L. Frazier, aka “Rekus,” 30; Anthony D. Hunter, aka “Dee,” 25; and Jacequin Boswell, aka “Nunu” and “Noodles,” 30. All are accused of participating in a racketeering conspiracy dating back to at least January 1, 2008. Lee is identified as the leader of the Park Side Greasies, while Williams allegedly leads the Click Clack Gang, and Cook heads the South Benton Gang.
Federal agents descended on Kansas City Thursday morning, executing 16 search warrants and arresting five of the defendants: Lee, Williams, Cook, Kelley, and Hunter. Johnson and Alford were already in custody on unrelated charges. The operation, involving over 140 law enforcement officers, yielded a staggering cache of weaponry: approximately 27 firearms, including two machineguns, along with 1,069 rounds of ammunition. Authorities also seized cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, and a significant amount of cash linked to the gangs’ operations. Evidence collection is still ongoing.
The indictment details how the three gangs – Park Side Greasies, Click Clack, and South Benton – formed a coalition known as “South Park Click.” Their alliance wasn’t just whispered on the streets; it was brazenly memorialized in a 2013 song, the lyrics of which are chillingly included in the indictment. A verse boasts of casual violence: “If somebody got shot, close your mouth – we probably did that.” The song continues with a callous disregard for victims, promising swift and brutal retaliation.
Prosecutors allege the “South Park Click” intentionally cultivated a climate of fear through relentless violence – shootings, assaults, property destruction – to suppress rivals and anyone who dared challenge their control. The indictment claims they used and threatened physical force to maintain their grip on the neighborhood and enriched themselves through drug trafficking, robbery, and burglary. The gang’s reach extended beyond simple intimidation; the charges include conspiracy to commit murder, suggesting a willingness to escalate violence to the ultimate degree.
All nine defendants are charged with one count of participating in a racketeering conspiracy. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, led by Teresa A. Moore, is prosecuting the case. The investigation, spearheaded by the ATF, represents a major blow to organized crime in Kansas City, though the long-term impact on the city’s streets remains to be seen. The full extent of the gang’s criminal activity and the potential for further arrests are still under investigation.
