Steven Reilly, False Statement on Gun Form, Oklahoma 2023

KINGSTON, OKLAHOMA – Steven Kenneth Reilly, 34, of Kingston, Oklahoma, is facing federal consequences after admitting he lied to obtain a firearm. Reilly pleaded guilty earlier this week to making a false statement on a federal form required for the redemption of a pawned weapon.

The deception unfolded on December 24, 2022, at the EZ Pawn shop in Durant, Oklahoma. Reilly attempted to reclaim a firearm he’d previously pawned, but intentionally checked ‘no’ on the ATF Form 4473 when asked if he was currently under indictment or information for a felony. This was a blatant falsehood, according to federal investigators.

Court records reveal that at the time of the attempted redemption, Reilly was, in fact, the subject of a two-count felony information filed in Marshall County District Court. This crucial detail would have disqualified him from legally possessing a firearm. The ATF launched an investigation that uncovered the false statement, leading to federal charges.

Federal prosecutors, Assistant United States Attorneys Joshua Satter and Michael Robinson, successfully secured the guilty plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson. The judge has ordered a presentence investigation report to gather more information about Reilly’s background and potential sentencing factors.

While the exact sentence remains to be determined, making false statements on federal firearm forms carries significant penalties. The charge is a serious federal offense, carrying potential prison time and hefty fines. The ATF’s Dallas Field Division spearheaded the investigation.

Reilly’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for the law and an attempt to circumvent federal regulations designed to keep firearms out of the hands of those legally prohibited from possessing them. This case serves as a warning that lying on federal forms, particularly those related to firearms, will not be tolerated and will be vigorously prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
