Counterfeit Currency Charges in Florida
A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Steven Timothy Jolly (40) and Eric Mark Hamilton (34), both of Jacksonville, with manufacturing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes and possessing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes. If convicted, Jolly and Hamilton each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each count.
The indictment alleges that Jolly and Hamilton produced and possessed counterfeit Federal Reserve notes, which are a serious threat to the financial stability of our community. The U.S. Secret Service – Jacksonville Field Office and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, and it will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
Jolly made his initial appearance on August 15, 2018, and was detained on August 21, 2018. His trial is set for October 1, 2018. Hamilton will make his initial appearance in federal court on August 28, 2018.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
The manufacturing and possession of counterfeit currency is a serious offense that can have far-reaching consequences. It’s essential that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable and brought to justice.
Jolly and Hamilton’s actions put the financial security of our community at risk, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in such activities are brought to justice.
