Baltimore, Maryland – Gregory Ray Blosser, the 37-year-old owner of The Surrogacy Group (TSG), is facing federal wire fraud charges for an alleged scheme to swindle clients out of their hard-earned fees. Blosser was arrested April 29th in Florida and has been charged with defrauding individuals seeking surrogate services.
According to the federal criminal complaint, Blosser promised to use the funds from clients to support surrogates during pregnancies but failed to do so. The victims were based across multiple states and countries, including Maryland, Australia, North Carolina, Germany, and Virginia. Many were left in the lurch when Blosser did not locate a suitable surrogate or pay agreed-upon fees.
U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur called the allegations ‘especially egregious,’ emphasizing that those who exploit individuals trying to become parents will be held accountable. Blosser is also facing civil suits from Maryland and Florida.
Blosser’s arrest followed an FBI investigation that revealed at least seven victims paid fees into escrow accounts controlled by Blosser, expecting him to locate a surrogate and cover costs. Instead, they were left without a surrogate or their money after numerous attempts for refunds failed.
Victims who believe they may have been scammed are encouraged to complete an online questionnaire at www.fbi.gov/tsg or email surrogategroup@fbi.gov. Blosser faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Leo J. Wise, and the FBI has been commended for its work.
