Sylvan Larrabee, 24, Sentenced for Sex Crime in South Dakota
A Cherry Creek, South Dakota man has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for having sexual contact with a minor, according to court documents.
Sylvan Larrabee, 24, was found guilty of Sexual Contact with a Minor after a federal grand jury indicted him in March 2016. He pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2016.
The incident in question occurred on May 28, 2015, when the victim, who was 14 years old at the time, went to Larrabee’s residence in Dupree. The two had consensual sexual intercourse twice that day, despite Larrabee being aware of the victim’s age and having been warned by friends and the victim’s mother to stay away.
Larrabee was sentenced to 24 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100 by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on January 23, 2017.
The case was investigated by the Cheyenne Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuting the case.
Larrabee was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
The harsh sentence handed down to Larrabee serves as a warning to those who would prey on the vulnerable, and highlights the importance of protecting children from sexual predators.
