Taco John’s Robbery Sentencing
FARGO, ND – On April 21, 2016, Rico Jamal Brown and Calvin Michael Frederick Brown, both residing in the Fargo-Moorhead area, were sentenced for their roles in the Taco John’s robbery that shook the community nearly a year ago.
On September 3, 2015, at approximately 10:30 PM, two masked men entered the Taco John’s restaurant located at 2601 32nd Avenue South, Fargo, and robbed the business at gunpoint. One of the employees was shot during the course of the robbery, leaving the community in shock and outrage.
Rico Brown, 27, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the robbery by participating as a lookout, while his brother, Calvin Michael Frederick Brown, 25, admitted to being the get-away driver for the robbery. Both brothers were sentenced by U. S. District Judge Ralph R. Erickson to serve time for Interference with Commerce by Threats and Violence-Hobbs Act Robbery.
Rico Brown was sentenced to serve five (5) years in prison for his role in the robbery. Calvin Brown, on the other hand, received a sentence of three (3) years and six (6) months in prison. Both brothers were also ordered to serve three (3) years of supervised release and to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
The investigation into the Taco John’s robbery was led by the Fargo Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATFE). U. S. Attorney Christopher C. Myers prosecuted the case, ensuring that justice was served for the victims and the community.
The sentencing of Rico and Calvin Brown brings closure to a difficult chapter in the city’s history. The community can now begin to heal and move forward, knowing that those responsible for the heinous crime have been held accountable.
