Tacoma Man Sentenced to 80 Months for Stabbing Victim 17 Times

A 41-year-old Tacoma man has been sentenced to 80 months in prison for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, announced U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman.

Shaun Lee Blue, 41, of Tacoma, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Tacoma for the violent assault that left his victim critically injured. The assault occurred on March 19, 2023, in the Roy Y Park and Ride lot, located on the property of Joint Base Lewis McChord in Eatonville, Washington.

According to records filed in the case, Blue worked for the victim as a day laborer. The two men got into an argument at the end of the workday, and Blue pulled a knife, stabbing the victim multiple times in the abdomen. The victim, who suffered serious cuts to his intestines, colon, and liver, fell to the ground, but Blue continued to stab him.

The victim was able to call 9-1-1 for help after the attack and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries. He continues to recover from his significant injuries.

In asking for a sentence above the guidelines range, Assistant United States Attorney Hillary Stuart wrote to the court, "Blue has not yet been deterred from violent crime despite numerous arrests and jail sentences. Blue’s prior interactions with the law should have put him on notice as to the serious consequences of his crimes, but it did not. He lacks any respect for the law or the legal system."

The victim is seeking $25,363 in restitution, which will be determined by Chief Judge David G. Estudillo at a hearing next month. The case was investigated by the FBI, Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Hillary K. Stuart prosecuting the case.
