Takedown of Palm Beach County Pot and Coke Empire
A massive marijuana and cocaine trafficking ring operating in Palm Beach County has been dismantled, with nine defendants facing federal charges for their alleged involvement.
According to the indictment, Herbert Grant, 36, of Boynton Beach, and eight other defendants were charged with participating in conspiracies to distribute marijuana and cocaine in and around Palm Beach County. The charges include distribution of marijuana and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to commit these offenses.
The indictment alleges that Grant, along with Ricardo Simpson, Gavin McLaren, Marvin Belton, Rohando Morris, and others, conspired to distribute marijuana from July 2014 to March 2015, and cannabis cocaine from January 2015 to April 28, 2015, in Palm Beach County and other locations.
Grant, Simpson, McLaren, Belton, and Morris are accused of distributing marijuana, while Grant, McLaren, Ricardo Mills, Lorenzo Walker, Erick Morgan, and Sheldon Ralph Turner are accused of distributing cocaine.
Herbert Grant was charged with possession with intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana on October 25, December 8, and December 8-10 of 2014, and 50 kilograms or more of marijuana on December 7, 2014. Grant was also charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine on February 25, 2015, and less than 500 grams of cocaine on March 3, 2015 and April 28, 2015.
Rohando Morris was charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana on December 7, 2014. Ricardo Simpson was charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana on December 7, 2014, and less than 50 kilograms of marijuana on December 8, 2014.
Gavin McLaren was charged with attempted possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana on December 7, 2015. McLaren was also charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine on February 25, 2015.
Law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), seized a significant amount of marijuana and cocaine during the course of the investigation.
The OCDETF mission is to identify, investigate, and prosecute high-level members of drug trafficking enterprises, bringing together federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in a joint effort to combat organized crime.
