GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Justin Antre Grantsteadman, a 36-year-old resident of Tallahassee, Florida, is facing federal charges for illegal firearm possession. According to the Department of Justice USAO, Grantsteadman has been indicted for the serious offense.
The defendant appeared in court before United States Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick for arraignment at the United States Courthouse in Tallahassee. If convicted, he stands to serve up to 15 years behind bars.
The investigation into Grantsteadman’s possession of a firearm was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the United States Marshall Service, and the Tallahassee Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney James A. McCain is prosecuting the case.
It’s important to note that an indictment is simply an accusation by a grand jury and does not prove guilt. Grantsteadman is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide effort led by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels, and protect communities from violent crime. It involves coordination between the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
