Tallahassee, FL – Eddie Lee Shular Jr., 36, of Tallahassee, pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against illegal weaponry. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin lauded local and federal law enforcement for their role in apprehending this dangerous individual.
Heekin stated, “I applaud the excellent work of our local and federal partners to make our community safer by getting this dangerous individual off the streets. My office remains committed to fulfilling the promise made by President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi to Take Back America by targeting criminals who are endangering our communities with the full force of the law.”
According to court documents, Shular was discovered in a vehicle parked unlawfully at Jack McLean Park in March 2025. The officer detected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leading to the discovery of a firearm in the glovebox during a search. DNA evidence confirmed Shular’s connection to the weapon.
Shular boasts 17 prior felony convictions and now faces up to 15 years imprisonment for his latest offense. This case has been investigated by both the Tallahassee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney James A. McCain handling the prosecution.
Sentencing is set for November 6, 2025, at the United States Courthouse in Tallahassee before Judge Mark E. Walker. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguarding communities from violent crime.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida encourages everyone to lock their car doors at night to prevent burglaries that fuel gun trafficking. For more information on public court documents or the office itself, visit the official website.
