TAMPA, FL – Curtis Williams Jr., 34, of Tampa, is headed for a long stretch behind bars. U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Kovachevich handed down a 10 year and 10 month sentence today for his role in a crack cocaine distribution ring. The sentence follows Williams’ guilty plea on November 29, 2016, to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base – more commonly known as crack cocaine.
The case, built on months of undercover work, reveals a calculated operation. Court documents show that between January and July of 2016, Williams acted as a supplier, feeding a steady stream of crack to his partner in crime, Brian Allen. This wasn’t a casual exchange; it was a “mutually beneficial business arrangement,” as prosecutors described it – a cold calculation of profit from poison.
Undercover officers repeatedly purchased crack cocaine from Allen over a seven-month period, a total of 12 separate buys adding up to over 128 grams. Each transaction painted a clearer picture of the operation, and ultimately, led back to Williams as the source. The street-level sales fueled the conspiracy, and Williams reaped the benefits from the shadows.
Brian Allen, Williams’ co-conspirator, also pleaded guilty on January 17, 2017, and awaits sentencing on May 12, 2017. While Williams’ sentence has been determined, Allen will soon learn his fate, and it’s likely he’ll be joining Williams in federal prison.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), highlighting the agency’s focus on dismantling drug networks that often overlap with weapons offenses. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Leeman and Mike Gordon successfully prosecuted the case, securing a significant conviction and a substantial sentence.
