Tara Nicole Shock Sentenced for Unlawful Possession of Firearm in W.Va.

In a move aimed at reducing violent crime in West Virginia, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that 28-year-old Tara Nicole Shock of Rosedale, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 12 months incarceration for a firearms violation.

According to the court documents, Shock was prohibited from owning firearms but was found in possession of a .40 caliber pistol and a .45 caliber pistol in August 2018 in Monongalia County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Morgantown Police Department, and the Williamstown Police Department conducted the investigation.

The case was brought under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with prevention and reentry programs.

Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case, handing down the sentence to Shock.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of the case, highlighting the importance of collaboration in reducing violent crime in West Virginia.

Shock’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the consequences of violating firearms laws in West Virginia, and the ongoing efforts to keep communities safe.
