Grimy Times has learned that a local man has admitted to illegally possessing a firearm and distributing controlled substances in Essex County, New Jersey.
Taurean Gordon, 40, of Irvington, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to charges of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, Gordon admitted that on February 11, 2021, he possessed heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine packaged for distribution with the intent to distribute. The 40-year-old was also found to be in possession of a North American Arms Inc. revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.
Gordon, a previously convicted felon, is facing a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1 million, and a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, which must run consecutively to any other sentence imposed.
The investigation leading to Gordon’s guilty plea was conducted by the Newark Police Division and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Newark Field Division. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys DeNae Thomas and George Barchini.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 8, 2024.
