Tax Cheat Busted in Greenville
A Greenville man has been sued for allegedly preparing and filing fraudulent tax returns, federal officials announced today. Nathaniel Kimble, the owner of Kimble Tax Services, has been accused of inflating and fabricating Earned Income Tax Credits to cheat the system and line his own pockets.
According to court documents, Kimble learned the ins and outs of tax preparation from none other than convicted tax scammer Alice Mobley. Mobley, who was sentenced to 75 months in prison after pleading guilty to three charges related to her tax return practices in Alabama, allegedly conspired with Kimble’s employees to file tax returns she knew were bogus.
The complaint alleges that Kimble knowingly prepared federal income tax returns for customers that understated their tax liability and overstated the refunds they claimed. This is not the first time the US government has taken action against tax preparers who engage in this type of activity. In the past decade, the Tax Division has obtained more than 500 injunctions to stop tax fraud promoters and tax return preparers.
Kimble’s alleged scheme is just one example of the thousands of tax scams that occur every year. The Tax Division is urging anyone who believes they have been a victim of tax fraud to come forward and report it.
The US government is seeking a permanent ban from preparing tax returns for Kimble. If successful, this would be a major blow to Kimble’s business and could serve as a warning to other tax preparers who engage in similar activity.
The case against Kimble is just one part of a larger effort to crack down on tax fraud. The Tax Division is committed to protecting American taxpayers and ensuring that those who cheat the system are held accountable.
