DENVER, CO – Marquis Taylor, 29, of Arapahoe County, is headed to federal prison for nearly four years after admitting to a brazen strong-arm robbery of a U.S. mail carrier last September. Taylor was sentenced to 46 months behind bars on July 17, 2025, by United States District Judge Regina M. Rodriguez.
The crime unfolded while the postal carrier was on her lunch break, still inside her mail truck. According to the plea agreement, Taylor, along with two accomplices, targeted the carrier in an attempt to steal a universal mailbox key – a key that would grant access to an entire neighborhood’s mail. Though they failed to obtain the key, the trio made off with stolen mail, packages, and a valuable postal scanner.
The robbery wasn’t without consequences for the victim. The postal carrier sustained minor injuries during the assault, a fact that clearly resonated with federal authorities. “Attacking a postal carrier to steal mail is a federal crime that threatens both public safety and the integrity of our mail system,” stated United States Attorney Peter McNeilly. “This office will continue to aggressively prosecute those people who target federal employees simply for doing their jobs.”
This isn’t Taylor’s first brush with justice in this case. Dravell Ross, another suspect involved in the robbery, was previously sentenced to four years in prison last year. Authorities have yet to comment on the status of the third individual involved. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) led the investigation, highlighting the agency’s commitment to protecting its employees.
“Today’s sentencing is a message to those who contemplate perpetrating senseless and traumatizing acts of violence against U.S. Postal Service employees,” declared Inspector in Charge Bryan Musgrove of the USPIS. “Robberies of our employees are a top investigative priority… Rest assured that the dedicated men and women of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service will ensure perpetrators of these acts are brought to justice no matter how much time has passed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
