Taylorville Man Convicted of 398 Grams of Ice
A federal jury in Springfield has delivered a guilty verdict against Donald R. Felton, 37, of Taylorville, for possession with intent to distribute 50 or more grams of actual methamphetamine, known as ‘Ice.’
Felton was found guilty of the crime after a two-day trial, during which the government presented evidence that he traveled to the St. Louis area in May 2019 to obtain methamphetamine for redistribution in Taylorville.
On June 8, 2019, law enforcement officers initiated a traffic stop on Felton’s SUV and seized 398 grams of pure methamphetamine, a digital scale, and over $800 in cash.
The investigation, which was conducted by the Illinois State Police Central Illinois Enforcement Group, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Taylorville Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, found that Felton was involved in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Felton faces statutory penalties of a minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison, up to a $20,000,000 fine, and a minimum of 10 years and up to a life term of supervised release. He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Timothy A. Bass and Sierra Senor-Moore.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 5, 2022, at the federal courthouse in Springfield, Illinois.
