James Russell Green Jr, Child Sex Assault and Exploitation, Virgini…

Former high school teacher and swim coach James Russell Green, Jr., 54, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison without parole for sexually assaulting and exploiting numerous child victims. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner, also includes a $10,000 fine and a special victim assessment of $10,000. This sentence is to be served consecutively with Green’s state sentences in three Jackson County Circuit Court cases.

Green, who taught at various middle schools and high schools in the Kansas City area and coached swimming at his school and the Leawood swim club, admitted using a hidden video camera to produce and possess child pornography. He recorded these videos from the late 1990s through approximately 2015, using both an 8-millimeter video camera and digital formats.

The investigation began when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Green’s residence in April 2017. They discovered numerous videos showing boys undressing in the locker room of the school where Green taught, unaware that they were being recorded. Additionally, a graphic video depicting a sexual encounter between Green and a child victim was found.

Forensic examiners also located thousands of images of child pornography on Green’s electronic devices, many of which appeared to be sent by boys he knew. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Luna prosecuted the case, while the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and the Blue Springs, Mo., Police Department conducted the investigation.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about this initiative and internet safety education, visit www.usdoj.gov/psc.
