Kevin Techau Leaves US Attorney Post
In a shocking move, Kevin W. Techau announced his resignation as United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa effective midnight on March 10, 2017. Techau’s departure marks the end of his three-year tenure leading the US Attorney’s Office.
The reasons behind Techau’s sudden resignation are unclear, but he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside the ‘top-notch group of public servants’ in the office. Techau praised the ‘excellent federal, state, and local law enforcement officers across the state’ who assisted him during his time in office.
Techau took office on November 7, 2013, following his appointment by President Barack Obama. He was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on February 12, 2014.
First Assistant United States Attorney Sean R. Berry will serve as Acting US Attorney pending an interim or permanent appointment by the Attorney General or the President. Berry’s new role signifies a significant change for the office, which has been led by Techau for the past three years.
Throughout his tenure, Techau has worked tirelessly to uphold justice and protect the people of Iowa. His dedication to public service has been evident in his commitment to fighting crime and promoting public safety.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa has a reputation for excellence, and Techau’s resignation will undoubtedly leave a void in the office. However, with Berry at the helm, the office is well-equipped to continue its mission of justice and public service.
