Former Felon Caught with Firearms in Mobile County
A man with a history of burglary convictions has pleaded guilty to possessing firearms, a crime he is prohibited from committing as a convicted felon.
Ted McCall Snow, 55, of Wilmer, Alabama, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of firearms. The evidence presented in court showed that on March 8, 2013, an individual returned to his residence on Woodland Hills Drive and found an unfamiliar vehicle in the carport. Snow was in the driver’s seat and sped away from the scene.
The back door of the residence had been forced open, and three firearms and a jewelry box had been removed from their usual resting places in the residence. The resident called the police and provided a description of the driver and the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, a Mobile Police officer stopped the vehicle driven by Snow at Schillinger Road and Old Government Street.
The burglary victim was brought to the scene of the traffic stop and identified Snow as the person he saw speed away from his residence. Snow was previously convicted of eleven cases of burglary, receiving stolen property, and theft in Mobile County Circuit Court between 1989 and 2007.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama, Snow’s status as a convicted felon prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition. The penalty for violating this law is a maximum of 10 years in prison, but since Snow has three prior convictions for violent felonies, the penalty is a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment.
Snow is scheduled to be sentenced before the Honorable Callie V.S. Granade on October 21, 2013. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mobile Police Department.
The investigation and subsequent plea deal demonstrate the importance of enforcing firearms laws and holding accountable those who break them.
