Juanell Carter, a 19-year-old felon from St. Louis, was caught with a machine gun after a police chase on August 26, 2025. The St. Ann Police Department was alerted about a stolen 2024 Nissan Altima, which Carter was driving while wearing a yellow and black ski mask. After a brief pursuit, Carter abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but was later arrested and found to be in possession of a Glock 10mm pistol with a machine gun conversion device.
The police chase began when a St. Ann police lieutenant spotted the stolen vehicle backing into a parking spot at a convenience store on Page Avenue. Carter sped away, prompting the lieutenant to activate his lights and siren. A Starchase tracker was deployed, allowing the police to monitor the vehicle electronically until it stopped at North Garrison Avenue and Thomas Street in St. Louis.
Carter, who was on parole at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He faces up to 15 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 2, 2026. The case was investigated by the St. Ann Police Department, the North County Police Cooperative, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and protecting communities from perpetrators. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D’Agrosa is prosecuting the case.
