Teenage Thief Jalique Wiseman Charged in Metropolitan Branch Trail Robbery Spree

A 19-year-old Washington, D.C. man is facing 24 charges in connection with a string of robberies and armed robberies along the Metropolitan Branch Trail in the nation’s capital.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jalique Wiseman, 19, was indicted yesterday on charges including robbery, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon, and credit card fraud.

The alleged crimes took place between October 2, 2023, and November 23, 2023, with Wiseman and an accomplice robbing 11 people on or near the Metropolitan Branch Trail. The victims were reportedly robbed of their phones and other property, with Wiseman demanding their passcodes and using that information to access their financial accounts.

The stolen funds were then allegedly transferred to accounts controlled by Wiseman, with the full extent of the financial losses unclear at this time.

The case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kraig Ahalt leading the prosecution.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.

Wiseman is scheduled to be arraigned on June 26, 2024, before the Honorable Jennifer Di Toro in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

The Metropolitan Branch Trail robberies have left a trail of fear and trauma in their wake, and the community is breathing a sigh of relief that the alleged perpetrator has been identified and charged.
