Teofanes Salas-Campos, Enticing A Minor, Texas 2012

Teofanes Salas-Campos, a 40-year-old Mission man, has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for his role in enticing a 14-year-old minor for sex.

According to court documents, Salas-Campos, who previously pleaded guilty on September 17, 2012, admitted to intending to have sex with the minor in exchange for money.

During a hearing held late yesterday, U.S. District Judge Randy Crane imposed a 135-month sentence on Salas-Campos, citing evidence that the defendant had taken a photograph of the minor on her cell phone that constituted sexually explicit conduct.

The sentence was enhanced due to the minor’s age and the commission of a sex act. Salas-Campos will also be required to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

Additionally, Salas-Campos will be registered as a sex offender.

The investigation into Salas-Campos’ actions was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Pharr Police Department.

Two other men, Felipe de Jesus Ponce-Torres and Jose Luis Garcia-Saldivar, were also arrested and charged in separate cases for enticing a minor. Ponce-Torres, 24, of Mexico, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, while Garcia-Saldivar, 28, will be sentenced on May 9, 2013.

All three men admitted to intending to have sex with a minor and pay them between $80 and $100.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kimberly Ann Leo and Juan Villescas.
