Tevaughn Brownlee, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, South Dakota 2023

A 27-year-old Aberdeen man has been sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Tevaughn Brownlee, 27, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, was sentenced on October 10, 2023, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann.

Brownlee was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person after a federal grand jury indicted him in November 2022. He pleaded guilty on July 24, 2023.

The conviction stemmed from a domestic violence incident on September 11, 2022, in Aberdeen, where Brownlee was found to be in possession of a Smith and Wesson 45 caliber pistol. Due to a prior felony conviction in Illinois, Brownlee is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Brownlee was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.

This case was investigated by the ATF and the Aberdeen Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuting the case. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

Brownlee’s sentence includes three years of supervised release and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
