Trent Brewer, 20, Charged with Second Degree Murder in Pine Ridge, South Dakota
A brutal argument turned deadly in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, when Trent Brewer, 20, allegedly shot and killed another man in April 2023.
According to the FBI and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, Brewer was involved in a heated argument that escalated into a fatal shooting. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Trent Brewer was recently charged with Second Degree Murder and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta Wollman on April 7, 2023. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, five years supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson is prosecuting the case, which is being conducted by the FBI and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Brewer was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
A trial date has been scheduled for June 13, 2023. Brewer’s lawyer has not commented on the case, but we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
The charge is merely an accusation, and Brewer is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
