TYLER, Texas – A Texarkana, Texas convicted felon finds himself in hot water once again as he faces federal child pornography charges in the Eastern District of Texas.
John Matthew Emerson, 41, has been named in an indictment by a federal grand jury this week. The charges stem from Emerson being found with a cellular phone containing images of child pornography while on supervised release for his previous possession of child pornography conviction.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood mobilizes federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online.
Emerson, if convicted, could be facing up to 20 years in federal prison. The investigation into this case is being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, with the prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Jackson.
A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. Emerson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
