Livingston, Texas native JAMES PUCKETT, 46, was meted out a five-year prison term followed by fifteen years of supervised release for his role in the transportation of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey imposed the sentence, which also mandates PUCKETT’s registration as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
PUCKETT, who worked on an offshore vessel, was apprehended by federal agents at Port Fourchon with child pornography in his possession. The digital evidence included graphic images depicting the sexual victimization of pre-pubescent children. Transporting such material from Texas to Louisiana in April 2016 landed PUCKETT in legal trouble.
The sentencing is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse across the nation. This program coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children and rescue victims. Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans lauded the efforts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, specifically Homeland Security Investigations, for their role in investigating PUCKETT’s case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba is leading the prosecution under the Project Safe Childhood initiative.
Judge Zainey’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in heinous acts against children. The community can take comfort in knowing that justice has been served for these innocent victims.
