MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Kameron Vaughn Barrett, a 27-year-old from Desoto, Texas, has entered a guilty plea in federal court, facing stiff penalties for his role in a drug trafficking operation. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Barrett admitted to possessing a firearm in furtherance of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, a serious offense that could land him behind bars for at least five years and leave him holding a $250,000 fine.
The charges stem from an investigation led by the Durant Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Barrett’s arrest came after authorities discovered the firearm linked to his involvement in drug trafficking activities. The Indictment filed against him outlines that the crime took place on November 11, 2023.
During a hearing presided over by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson, the court accepted Barrett’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed. This report will play a critical role in determining the final sentence, which will be decided by a U.S. District Court Judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
Barrett remains in custody of the United States Marshals Service until his sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob R. Parker represented the interests of the United States during the proceedings, ensuring that justice was served.
