Assaulting DEA Agents Lands Texas Man in Prison

Kingsley Ufembou Akendeu, a 24-year-old man from Lubbock, Texas, has pleaded guilty to assaulting federal law enforcement officers in New Mexico.

According to court records, Akendeu was arrested by the DEA in January 2018, after approximately 2.7 kilograms of marijuana were found in his luggage during an interdiction investigation at a bus station in Albuquerque.

During his arrest, Akendeu allegedly scratched, punched, and bit a DEA Special Agent and a DEA Task Force Officer while resisting arrest.

The case went to indictment, with Akendeu facing charges of assaulting a federal law enforcement officer. The indictment was later superseded to include a second assault charge.

Today, Akendeu pleaded guilty to the superseding indictment, admitting to scratching a DEA Special Agent’s face and punching him in the nose, and biting a DEA Task Force Officer.

Akendeu, who remains in custody, faces a prison sentence of 37 to 46 months, followed by a term of supervised release to be determined by the court.

The case was investigated by the DEA and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Norman Cairns.
