Texas Man Sentenced to 84 Months for Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Conspiracy
Anchorage, AK – A Texas man, Omar Alejandro Alfaro, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking conspiracy that brought heroin and methamphetamine into Alaska.
Alfaro, 37, of Texas, personally delivered large quantities of heroin and methamphetamine to Alaska-based co-conspirators, who then transported the drugs to Anchorage for distribution. He worked with co-conspirators in the United States and in Mexico.
The conspiracy began in January 2013 and continued until October 2014, during which time co-conspirators imported 12 kilograms of heroin and 2 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States from Mexico.
As part of his guilty plea, Alfaro admitted to delivering 1 kilogram of heroin in March 2014 and 2.5 kilograms of heroin and 866 grams of methamphetamine in June 2014 to an undercover DEA agent posing as an Alaska-based drug dealer.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Ralph R. Beistline noted the devastating consequences of heroin and methamphetamine on individuals and emphasized the need for deterrence and to reinforce societal norms.
