Texas Woman Sentenced to Prison for Murder Threats
Raleigh – A Texas woman has been sentenced to prison for sending murder threats to a Fort Bragg soldier via internet messaging applications.
A federal court in North Carolina sentenced Tanyatorn Ghanjanasak, 35, to serve one year and one day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, upon conviction for Interstate Threats to Injure. Ghanjanasak previously pleaded guilty to the charge on March 5, 2018.
The threats, which included messages claiming she had tried to kill her husband, a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, were sent over anonymous messaging applications from Ghanjanasak’s home and workplace. The investigation revealed that Ghanjanasak, who holds a medical degree and was practicing medicine at the time, had engaged in the threatening conduct with the intent to carry out her threats.
According to the indictment and evidence presented at sentencing, Ghanjanasak’s husband began receiving threatening text messages in 2015. The threats continued for several months, with Ghanjanasak sending messages claiming she had tried to kill him and stating ‘There’s a surprise coming for you which is to die for [smiley face emoticon]. I hope you like it.’
During the investigation, the FBI discovered that Ghanjanasak had sent threatening communications to her husband and two other individuals using anonymous messaging applications. The agency engaged in a thorough investigation, which ultimately revealed Ghanjanasak’s involvement in the case.
Assistant United States Attorney William M. Gilmore represented the government in this case. The investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Tanyatorn Ghanjanasak’s sentencing marks the end of a lengthy investigation into her involvement in sending murder threats to her husband and others. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in threatening behavior.
