Thaddeus Deon Devlin, Jr., a 29-year-old resident of Greenwood, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for his role in a weapons violation. The charges stem from a domestic violence incident that occurred on March 11, 2023, in which Devlin threatened a victim with a gun and took her 5-year-old son.
According to evidence presented in court, officers from the Greenwood Police Department responded to the scene and located a loaded .40 caliber pistol in Devlin’s vehicle. Devlin’s criminal history includes multiple incidents of domestic violence, assault and battery, and a prior conviction for felon in possession of a firearm. At the time of the offense, he was on federal supervised release. Devlin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
United States District Judge Donald C. Coggins, Jr., sentenced Devlin to 84 months in prison on the indictment and 16 months consecutively for violating his supervised release. He will also serve a one-year term of court-ordered supervision upon his release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement agencies and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, support prevention efforts, and set targeted enforcement priorities.
The investigation into Devlin’s case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Greenwood Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Lea Schoen is prosecuting the case.
