A Steubenville, Ohio man is facing federal charges after allegedly possessing a firearm in West Virginia.
Thomas Bennett, age 41, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Bennett’s indictment stems from an incident on August 12, 2017, in Ohio County, West Virginia, where he allegedly possessed a 9mm pistol.
The indictment comes after Bennett was previously convicted of drug possession in Commons Pleas Court in Jefferson County, Ohio in 2017.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin is leading the prosecution on behalf of the government.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wheeling Police Department are investigating the case.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Bennett is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
