Local Federal Inmate Accused of Marijuana Possession
WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA – In a shocking turn of events, a federal inmate at the United States Federal Correctional Institution, Allenwood (FCI Allenwood), has been charged with marijuana possession.
Thomas Burton, age 46, was found in possession of marijuana on February 25, 2022. The discovery was made during an investigation by officers at FCI Allenwood and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, the charges stem from the successful investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin is prosecuting the case.
Mr. Burton faces a maximum of five years of incarceration and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
It’s worth noting that indictments are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. The case continues to unfold, and Mr. Burton’s fate remains uncertain.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the charges, and the public is advised to remain vigilant. As the investigation progresses, more information will be made available.
