Charleston Man Sentenced for Heroin Crime

A Charleston man has been sentenced to 1.5 years in federal prison for a heroin-related crime, announced United States Attorney Carol Casto.

Thomas Jarrell, 21, previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.

The crime occurred on October 1, 2015, at Jarrell’s Georges Creek residence in Malden. Agents of the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team seized approximately six grams of heroin during the execution of a search warrant at Jarrell’s home.

Jarrell further admitted to being involved in the distribution of up to 60 grams of heroin.

The investigation was conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney John J. Frail is handling the prosecution.

United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the sentence, which is part of an ongoing effort to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin in West Virginia.

This case is being prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
